Super Hero & Coffee Birthday Card

Today is my husband's birthday. Happy Birthday, Nik! I made this card for him by combining two of his favorite things, his love of coffee and super heroes. Kind of an odd combination, but I think I made it work. The super hero themed papers from Echo Park were the perfect choice for this comic book inspired card. I also used the coffee cup die from the My Favorite Things Hot Cocoa Cup die set to incorporate the coffee theme. I really love how this card turned out. It's such a fun card and it makes me smile. Most importantly, he loved it!

If you'd like to make this card, keep reading for the instructions, as well as a full list of the supplies I used to create the card.

Let's Make This Card!

First you will need to cut out the 4" x 6" cityscape card that is part of the Echo Park Super Hero Mini Themes collection kit. It will serve as the background of the card. I trimmed it down to 4" x 5-1/4"  and attached it to a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of red cardstock. The red cardstock provides a nice border around the background. Attach this to an A2 size card.

I took a second background card and fussy cut the comic book bubble words. I also cut an additional bubble word from one of the 12x12 sheets of paper. These will be attached directly on top of the background bubble words using foam dots to create dimension.

As you can see by this photo, the bubble words are popped up from the card background.

I used my computer to create the "Have A Super Birthday!" sentiment. I cut down the 12x12 sheet of speech bubble paper so that it would fit into my printer.

Next, print "Have A Super Birthday!" onto the speech bubble paper so that the sentiment is centered inside the bubble. Fussy cut the cloud and attach it to the card using adhesive foam dots.

Cut 1 coffee cup and 2 coffee ovals out of white cardstock using the My Favorite Things Hot Cocoa Cups die set. I used a blender brush to apply Distress Ink in walnut stain to the coffee ovals. I made it dark because my husband drinks his coffee black. I like to add little details that customize the cards to the recipient. Something tells me my husband won't notice this! LOL!

Use a computer generated "Coffee Is Super!" sentiment and print it onto white cardstock. Place the coffee cup die so that the sentiment is centered on the front of the cup. I suggest using iCraft Purple Tape or low tack washi tape to keep the die in place as you run it through your die cutting machine.

A  Green Lantern 3D puffy sticker was attached to one of the coffee cups to mimic a super hero coffee cup.

Time to attach the coffee cups to the card! Glue the cup on the left to the card. Use adhesive foam dots to attach the cup on the right to the card.

Use a star die or punch to cut stars out of cardstock and glue them randomly onto the sky background. The card is now complete!

I hope you enjoyed learning how to make this fun super hero and coffee birthday card. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
