Birthday Cake Card

I created this card for the My Favorite Things Color Challenge #145. This is a really nice color palette and it works well for a masculine card. I'll probably use it again on other cards and projects. The Stampendous Party Background stamp is the perfect background for a birthday card. It gives the background some interest without taking away from the awesome My Favorite Things Birthday Cake die cut. Keep reading for instructions on how to make this card as well as the full list of supplies.

I knew I wanted to use a tone on tone color palette for the background of the card. I selected kraft cardstock for the base of the card and used Distress Oxide Vintage Photo ink to stamp the image on the cardstock.

Next I cut a frame using a Stitch Rectangle Scallop Edge Frame die from My Favorite Things.

Then the frame was glued to background of the card. I love how the frame adds interest to the background and frames the stamped words from the party background stamp. I've been using this die a lot to frame my cards. The scallop edges are so delicate and pretty!

Time to make a cake! I die cut different color combos for the cake and played around with the cut pieces until I decided on a final combination that I liked.

Here is an up close look at the finished cake. I decided against adding flames to the candles because I didn't want to add yellow or orange to the color palette.

I wrapped brown and white Baker's twine around the top of the card and made a bow to finish the card.
